FLOATS LIKE A MAGNET
(Performance lecture, duration: 35'00, 2017)
Floats Like A Magnet revolves around the premise that one could curate within fiction. Built around Chan’s practice as an artist, curator and filmmaker, the presentation involves the telling of a fictive narrative that weaves together the works of others.
The narrative builds upon Chan’s interaction with his fellow residents (Mercedes Azpilicueta, Lisa Vereertbrugghen, Mohamed Abdelkarim, Rodrigo Sobarzo de Larraechea), curators, the context and location of a residency. Taking the form of a performance lecture with the narrative incorporating familiar genres, pop/cultural references and art writing. Thus, the story recalls the artworks, activates the space and archives the residency. Evoking the space as scenario, exhibition as plot and the curator as storyteller.
Produced as part of the 37th Drodesera Festival’s LIVE WORKS Vol. 5 residency programme.
