DRIVE

screening/performance, 2012)

A conflation of movement and the moving image, and play on words. Drive was a project that explored the relationship between film and the modern city. Particularly in one such as Singapore where mobility is a obsession and staying still means falling behind.

A screening platform outfitted at the back of an open air pickup truck, commonly seen on the roads across Southeast Asia ferrying low-wage migrant workers. Drive creates an overlap between the locations in the films and the paths travelled.

The word 'drive' itself denotes the desire for something that is yet to come, making tangible the anxieties that pervade the city.
